If someone had told me 33 years ago that I’d be running a cookie decorating company, I probably would’ve laughed, but here I am, 10 years into running Sweetology, a DIY cookie decorating company built on love, frosting, and the sweet chaos of life.

It All Started at the Kitchen Table

Some of my favorite memories as a mom are the simplest ones: a quiet Saturday afternoon, a batch of sugar cookies cooling on the counter, and my kids gathered around the table with bowls of colorful icing and a million sprinkles.

There was no pressure to be perfect. Our cookies weren’t always “Instagram-worthy.” Some were lopsided, some overloaded with candy eyes, and some… well, let's just say they had character. But we laughed, we connected, and we created together. I watched my kids light up with pride as they showed off their masterpieces. And I realized something:

This is what joy looks like.

The Moment Everything Clicked...

After years of feeling stretched thin and always rushing through life, balancing my role as a mom with everything from railroads and toxic torts, to startup companies. But those cookie sessions brought me back to the present. I wasn’t just baking — I was making memories with my children, using something as simple as a cookie to spark creativity and togetherness.

After my tenure in the corporate world, I was burnt out. But I also knew I needed to do something that added light to the world. So I had this crazy idea…I could start my own company. Right? After all, smart people figure things out. Don’t they? But what…

I was in NYC drinking wine with a friend, and she asked me how my business idea was coming along, to which I replied, “I just want to love it.” She then said, “What do you love to do?” I don’t know why, but I replied at the time, “I am very happy when I am with my kids in the kitchen licking fingers and bowls.” I don’t know if it was the time of year or the nostalgia of the holidays, but in the next moment, I said, “I got it, and Sweetology was born.
