FAQ:

Do I need to supply my own tools or baked goods?

No, everything you need for each class will be supplied by Sweetology. You will be using our tools and equipment. That means you don’t need to make an additional investment in a lot of expensive supplies, materials, turntables etc. to enjoy the class. If and when you are ready to purchase supplies to decorate at home, we’ll be happy to point you in the right directions for purchasing basics that won’t break the bank. Any frosting or baked good you’ll be working with in class is also provided. Students will take home any items decorated in the weekly classes.

I’ve never done any cake decorating, is this class for me?

Yes, even if you’ve never frosted a cake before, you can take this class. This class will start at the very beginning of leveling, filling and frosting a cake. While baking may be part of the discussion, we will not be doing any baking during class. We’ll be focused only on decorating techniques and each week’s skills will prepare and build for the following week’s class.  You’ll learn a wide range of frosting finishing techniques, basic piping skills, and other decorative elements.

Do I have to attend all four classes?

Yes, it really is best to attend each class. Each week new skills and techniques are introduced in a progression that works toward the following week’s projects. If you have some cake decorating experience, it might be possible to miss the first class, but we strongly recommend attending all four classes. Certainly, we understand if you become ill or there is some circumstance that prevents you from attending a class. While all class fees are non-refundable, our instructors will work with you to bring you up to speed on any missed material.

Not in this class. Covering the entire cake requires a bit more practice and skill and will be included in the next level class.

I’m worried I’ll get lost in the crowd or won’t be able to get enough help.

That’s a legitimate concern. This particular class is a smaller group format. By limiting the group to now more than 10 students, this will allow students to receive adequate instructor assistance (if needed), ask lots of questions, and work within a more intimate setting.

Is the instructor experienced?

Definitely! Your instructor is an accomplished pastry chef with years of decorating experience to share. In most cases, our instructors are Graduates of culinary programs and have tons of real-life experience in the baking and decorating industry that gives them a depth and breadth of knowledge to be a great resource for you.
